By the end of the 1500s it was in poor condition and after not many years was deconsecrated. The church was demolished during the French decade to allow for the construction of the new Calabrian road, today's Corso Resina. In 1800 work on the new church was begun, on the cheap. There was no current throne, the floor had been covered with common tiles, and there were no stucco or frescoes on the walls. The simple, classical facade is recent. At the bottom of the apse is a small trunk with a well-made marble statue of St. Catherine in the center. On the chancel that is over the entrance door is the large altarpiece that was already in the 16th-century church. In the sacristy is walled a plaque that was part of the monumental fountain that stood in the small square behind the church.
